The 2017-2018 FAFSA was made available to students beginning October 1, 2016. Students should be thinking about filing the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they have not done so already. St. Kate’s priority application deadline is easy to remember since it’s the same as tax day – April 15.

New This Year!
Beginning with the 2017–2018 FAFSA, students are required to report income information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) must report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.
IRS Data Retrieval Tool for the FAFSA
FAFSA applicants will have the option to retrieve certain relevant data elements (such as adjusted gross income) directly from the IRS tax database. If you are eligible, you can retrieve the information from the FAFSA site while completing an initial application, renewal application, or correction to an existing application.
Students and parent(s) who use the Data Retrieval Tool and do not make subsequent changes to the transferred information reduce the likelihood of being selected for verification and will not be required to submit tax transcripts for verification purposes if selected. You may still be required to submit documentation of non-tax data elements, such as amount of child support paid or food stamp eligibility.
Please contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions.
